Plymouth to Roscoff Ferries
Although Plymouth to Roscoff is one of the longer cross channel ferry routes it's ideal if you're planning to explore the rugged Western coast of Brittany. It's also an attractive option if you're heading for the Atlantic coast or indeed any of Western France. The Plymouth to Roscoff ferry route is serviced solely by Brittany Ferries who operate their luxury flagship cruise ferry on the route.
Ferries from Plymouth
Plymouth is the most westerly of the English ports operating ferries to France. Situated on the South coast of Devon Plymouth has excellent access from the West and North of England and Wales via the M5 and M6 motorways. Although not an obvious choice for ferry departures there is an excellent service that runs from Plymouth to Roscoff in Brittany.
Plymouth has always played an important role in England maritime history, and during the industrial revolution Plymouth was a major shipping port and a base of construction for the British Royal Navy.
During WWII the military significance of Plymouth was acknowledged when it was bombed in what became known as the Plymouth Blitz, and subsequently much of the city centre was rebuilt after the war.
Ferries to Roscoff
The port of Roscoff is located at the tip of the North-Western peninsula of Brittany and is ideally situated for holidaymakers wanting to do as little driving as possible once across the channel.
The deep water port was established at Roscoff in 1968, allowing the development of the town an alternative ferry destination to the busier channel ferry ports on Frances Northern coast.
Brittany Ferries are currently the only ferry company operating services to and from Roscoff, with 2 crossings daily, the first during the day (6 hours) and the second an overnight ferry crossing (8 hours).
An overnight ferry crossing is ideal if you've spent a long day driving through the UK as you can book a cabin and get a decent nights sleep so that you're refreshed and ready to start your holiday as soon as you put into port at Roscoff!
